Baptiste and Justin Galant, two brothers born in Montpellier and raised on the Causse de Blandas plateau, near Le Vigan. The older brother, Baptiste, thrives on running in the mountains. For the younger, Justin, it's as much his legs as his eyes and his camera that traverse and immortalize the landscapes.
J. GalantMy name is Baptiste, I'm 26 years old, and I currently live in Grenoble. I spend a lot of my time in the mountains, with trail running being my main sport. I grew up surrounded by nature, which has so much to teach us, but I didn't necessarily realize how privileged I was.
After two years abroad, I was fortunate enough to return and rediscover the Cirque de Navacelles. This gateway to the world, nestled between two arid plateaus, is truly unique and spectacular. The immersion in unspoiled nature is complete when exploring this area between the Gard and Hérault departments, between the Vis river and the Grands Causses.
I regularly return to the South, especially every year for the unmissable Ceven' Trail, a must-attend event for local trail runners. This event allowed me to discover La Toureille from a new perspective. It's the one you see from the Causse plateau, even obscuring Mont Aigoual, and climbing to its summit is an effort that rewards you with a beautiful view! Finally, I'll mention a lesser-known but no less stunning spot: the Pic d'Anjeau and its ridges. Starting from Montdardier, you wind through the forest to climb La Tude, and then, as if by magic, the ridges unfold before you. Whether following them or skirting around them, you'll always find a splendid view, and on a clear day, you can even see the sea.
For those feeling adventurous, it's even possible to extend the walk by a few kilometers and take a dip in Saint Laurent le Minier and its waterfall. The unspoiled nature, the Cévennes atmosphere, the gentle local climate—everything invites us to be outdoors in our beautiful Cévennes.
I have been outdoors since my childhood, but now that I realize it: our valleys, our Causses, our forests are jewels… They have a lot to give us, let's enjoy them and not forget that they expect a gesture from us in return.
My name is Justin, I am 21 years old. I am currently living in Annecy to pursue my passion: outdoor sports photography, specializing in trail running.
It was in the Cévennes that my passions for nature, sport and photography developed. Between the Cirque de Navacelles and Mont-Aigoual, trail running became a way for me to explore these landscapes and capture their beauty.
My favorite place is where I grew up, the Cirque de Navacelles. Starting from Blandas, I love running down into the heart of the Vis gorges, along the Faïsses path, passing under the magnificent Rocalte cliff. I love going there at sunrise, when the first rays of sunlight illuminate the nearby cliffs of the Hérault.
I also have a real soft spot for the ridge path between Alzon and the Col du Villaret. I discovered this ridge during the “Crossing of the Mont Aigoual Massif,” a video and sporting project I shared with my brother. The goal was to create a route showcasing the wonders of our region, such as the Lac des Pises, André Chamson's tomb, and the 4000 Steps. It's at the beginning of this route, from Alzon, that you can access these ridges. There, you'll find an exceptional viewpoint overlooking the entire Arre Valley, as well as Saint-Guiral, which you can reach by continuing along this path.
Finally, it is on the Causse that I find perfect calm. A solitary landscape, shaped by thousands of years of agro-pastoralism. Set like a film set, the Rogues plain, in the last rays of daylight, transforms into a magnificent tableau.
There is no better way to discover the Causse than by exploring its wide, bucolic spaces.
