What is the link between the association and La Fabrique?

It is an association of former students of La Poudrière and Bernard Palacios Bernard contributes to the studio every year, working on various films and projects. He co-founded the legendary La Fabrique studio and worked there until its closure. He then proposed that we continue to foster the creation of animated films through residencies, as the production studio had closed and its premises were empty. The first edition of the residency took place in the summer of 2019, organized in partnership with La Fabrique Association, the town hall of Saint-Laurent-le-Minier, and the Projectiles association.

What happens during a residency at La Fabrique?

For one month, six residents are housed and work at La Fabrique, focusing on writing and graphic research for new animated film projects. During this period of communal living, they share a workshop in what was once a studio that hosted numerous film productions. The place is very inspiring, steeped in history that is highly significant for today's animation filmmakers, and contains many traces and archives.
The residents also offer a screening of their films at the beginning of their residency, to introduce themselves and get to know interested locals, as well as an open house at the end to present their work and discuss it with visitors. These exchanges are always very enriching and interesting.

Can you tell us about the last 6 residents and their projects?

Barbara Malleville worked on a short ink-on-paper film project, adapted from a Mexican ecological tale, In the Shadow of the Vines. Jumi Yoon worked on a 26-minute children's film project, The Adventures of Kiltong, adapted from a comic strip by Heo Gyun. Catherine Manesse worked on a short film project based on personal memories of summer vacations, boredom, and imaginary childhood adventures, Vlassovo. Guillaume Lorin worked on a video game project, Low Tide, where humanity, having shrunk to a tiny size, has taken refuge by the sea and must learn to survive by helping each other, relying on the tides, plants, and animals.
Maxime Saillard and Florian Cailler have developed a series project, Klong!, about 3 teenage friends who try to keep their pétanque club alive in a village in the south of France.

How do residency exits conclude?

In exchange for the very warm welcome we receive from La Fabrique, the town hall, and the villagers, the residents contribute to the organization of the superb "Cinema Under the Stars" festival, which takes place at the end of their residency. This event celebrates animation with an evening of screenings in Saint-Laurent-le-Minier. The 24th edition will take place in 2025.
