Canoeing and vineyards

Our route starts in Laroque, a superb medieval village, running alongside the Hérault river with cafes and restaurants whose terraces overlook the river…

The ferry landing is easily accessible at the northern exit of the village. A must-stop is the baker's shop for bread baked in a traditional oven to complete our picnic.

Helmets, life jackets, paddles, picnic, sunscreen, and swimsuits—we're all set for the descent. The course begins with the Laroque "toboggan," right at the level of the café terraces. Watch out for falls, we have spectators! But we make it through without any trouble!

The route winds through magnificent landscapes and allows for numerous stops: swimming, diving from the rocks, even racing other canoes… The arrival at the village of Saint Bauzille de Putois is stunning, revealing former mills converted into luxury accommodations, beaches, and then passing under a suspension bridge. The last section is more relaxed, which is just as well, as our arms are starting to feel a bit tired.

Once we reach the end of the route, a shuttle takes us back to our starting point. We follow the Hérault River from Laroque to Saint-Bauzille, and then, just outside the village, we turn off towards Brissac, passing under the famous suspension bridge we had canoeed under. We finish our journey at the Domaine d'Anglas winery, located downstream, still following the Hérault. The winemakers, Carole and Roger, are truly passionate about their vines and this region. Pioneers of organic viticulture, they offer warm wines with a velvety texture—quite remarkable. The tasting is accompanied by a cheese platter. Wow, what a day!
