Sébastien and Bénédicte are both doctors at the Vigan health center. Parents of 3 children, they decided to leave Nîmes at the end of 2017 for the Cévennes.
“During our medical studies in Nîmes, we had our first child and quickly realized that with children… it was complicated to live in the city. After our studies, we decided to settle in the Cévennes, where we had done our residency near Lasalle. We didn't know the area very well, apart from trips to Mont Aigoual in primary school! While looking at job postings, we saw that a doctor from Le Vigan was leaving. We talked with her about the area, the working conditions, the health center, and her colleagues…”
In June 2017, we came to meet the team of doctors and rented a house in Ganges so we could do locum work. When our second daughter was born, we began transitioning to working with the doctor part of the week and covering for the other doctors at the medical center during their holidays. By the end of the year, we had decided to settle here permanently. We received excellent support from our colleagues throughout all the professional procedures before and after our arrival in the area. We shared a practice to cover for a doctor, which allows us to have a family life and manage our professional and personal lives more peacefully.
We came here because it truly met our criteria. It was the Cévennes region, with all the necessary healthcare and educational facilities nearby. It was incredibly convenient professionally: the medical center immediately allowed us to work as a team, in a safe and supportive environment. We also have the Ganges clinic and the Vigan hospital, so we weren't alone. And on a personal level, it provided all the necessary amenities for our family: school, daycare, middle school, and high school in Vigan.
And the natural surroundings, of course! We love hiking. A snowshoe hike at Lac des Pises in winter, under the snow, is quite extraordinary! The region is fantastic for that, and it also contributes to the quality of life.
