Presentation

Hamlets empty today, yet steeped in history. Sheepfolds and houses that still speak of life as it once was.

Clandestine gatherings, known as desert assemblies, were held in remote locations such as Figayrole or Bonperrier. The faithful met in secret to practice the Protestant religion.
This trail takes us through Figayrole, a hamlet where a clandestine Protestant assembly was discovered in 1692. The ridge walk offers magnificent 360° panoramas, followed by the passage to Bonperrier, a mountain pass on the Asclier collector road, part of the Margeride drovers' road which allowed flocks of sheep to be moved to summer pastures in June, to reach the highlands. Bonperrier welcomed the transhumant herders with, among other things, a tavern.
The descent is made via a path built for the passage of "carts" pulled by 2 oxen which then connected Le Cros to the Vallée Borgne.
