Presentation

The Climatographe, Europe's first center for interpreting and raising awareness about climate change, stands atop Mont Aigoual and invites curious young and old alike to discover how the climate works in a fun way!

Located in the heart of the Cévennes National Park, at the summit of Mont Aigoual, the Climatographe – Mont Aigoual Observatory is a unique place dedicated to understanding the climate and its evolution. It was awarded its first star in the Michelin "Travel and Cultures" guide in 2026 for this work.

Housed in the legendary Mont Aigoual Observatory, a landmark of heritage and scientific history linked to the reforestation of the Aigoual massif, the Climatographe now affirms a mission fully focused on the future: to offer the public the keys to understanding climate processes and the challenges of ongoing change. Its exhibition, both rigorous and accessible, recounts the unique history of the site, deciphers climate mechanisms and the causes of change, and sheds light on current issues through scientific data accessible to all.

Activities for children are offered throughout the season, as well as a special junior day on Wednesdays.

The Climatographe is also an exceptional site.
From its tower, on a clear day, you can enjoy a remarkable panorama, stretching from the Alps to the Pyrenees, from the Puy de Sancy to the Mediterranean. A spectacular view that serves as a reminder of the site's reality: a summit subject to intense weather events, where wind, cold, and precipitation shape an environment as remarkable as it is extreme. It is precisely these exceptional conditions at this altitude that have made Mont Aigoual an open-air natural laboratory. Combining scientific discovery, an immersive experience, and a breath of fresh air, the Climatographe is an unmissable stop—whether with family, friends, or during a nature getaway.
A souvenir and local products shop awaits you at the summit.
