The Cave of the Maidens

The alchemy of rock and water has sculpted a veritable underground cathedral here. Buried 70 meters below ground, lies a cavity 120 meters long, 48 meters wide, and 50 meters high: dimensions similar to Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris!

After a 54-meter ascent in Europe's first underground funicular, you wander through the galleries to the incredible Cathedral of Wonders, a result of the alchemy of rock and water. This place boasts exceptional acoustics and hosts numerous concerts; a Christmas Mass has been celebrated here for the past 50 years.

It is classified by the Ministry of the Environment as a National Site and is part of the Exceptional Sites in Languedoc.

Details concerning animals Animals are not allowed in the cave as a conservation measure. Animals that can be carried in a bag are permitted inside the cave. Animals on leashes may be kept while visiting the gift shop.
