Museum Overview

An interpretive trail to discover the mouflon and its history since 1950 in our Cévennes. An easy family trail offering breathtaking views of the Cévennes mountains.

Introduced to Mont Aigoual in the 1950s, the mouflon, however emblematic it may be, is still little known or poorly understood. This trail follows in its footsteps, perhaps offering a direct sighting from one of the observation points along the walk...
Also worth discovering: the Mouflon Observatory located on the D986, the road linking the villages of L'Espérou and Valleraugue, and "Open your eyes, look for the mouflon" (outings organized by the Maison de l'Aigoual throughout the summer).

Starting point: 2 km from the Col de la Lusette (on the D329)
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours
Distance: 2,3 km
Elevation: 100 m
Level: Easy
Markings: yellow
The route of the trail is available for download and from the Mont Aigoual Causses Cévennes Tourist Office.
Find the route on the Cévennes National Park destination website.

This trail is part of a network of forest paths and sites that allow visitors to discover the forest and wildlife of the Aigoual massif, in partnership with the French National Forestry Office (ONF). Find information about the Aigoual state forest on the ONF website. The "Aigoual Massif 4 Seasons Nature Hub" project is co-financed by the European Union.
