Museum Overview

The Trévezel originates in the Cévennes, on the oceanic side of Mont Aigoual, in the Gard department.

The river carves its course across the Camprieu plateau before flowing through the Trèvezel Gorges to Trèves. It then joins the Dourbie River on its right bank, downstream from Nant, at Cantobre. Its total length is 30 km. It exhibits the seasonal fluctuations characteristic of Cévennes rivers, with high water levels occurring from late autumn through spring.
The Trèvezel marks the border with the Gard department, bordering four communes (Revens, Trèves, Lanuéjols, and Causse-Bégon). This site marks the geographical separation between the Causse Noir and the Causse Bégon. Here you can explore its gorges and canyons, offering opportunities for swimming and trout fishing, its dolomitic cliffs, and its caves and sinkholes, popular with speleologists. Access: From the village of Camprieu, take the D157 towards Trèves.
