Lanuejols
A bit of geology and mining history, or spotting a fox very early in the morning, then the golden eagle and the peregrine falcon, and finally learning about the history of troglodyte cheese dairies, that's what this easy trail offers.
This trail will take you on both sides of the Montjardin pass, offering the chance to see strikingly contrasting landscapes: the steppes of the limestone plateaus and scattered stands of boxwood, the deep forests on the slopes of Mont Aigoual, steep, green gorges of Scots pine, ridges sculpted by the elements, and ravines full of nooks and crannies where, miraculously, a few trees have found a pocket of soil. A pleasant descent to Randavel follows an old path, then the climb back up to Montjardin through the bottom of a small valley. Beautiful views of the plateau towards Mont Aigoual await.
Along the route, directional posts and yellow paint markings will guide you. Named places and/or directions to follow are indicated in bold italics and between quotation marks in the description below:
From "Lanuéjols", take the direction of La Foulquarié via the GR®62.
At the "La Cambieyre" crossroads, head towards "Le Roube".
At "Le Roube" follow the direction of "Randavel" via "La Pousounyère", walk alongside the caravan park and go up into the coniferous forest.
At "La Pousounyère" take the path on the left. Gentle descent to "Randavel".
At "Randavel" stay above the houses and go up to "Le Roube".
Then back to "Lanuéjols".
