The Thaurac massif rises above the Hérault river at an altitude of nearly 500 m. Covered with traditional garrigue vegetation, dominated by holm oak, this 5km2 limestone island, surrounded by cliffs, is a paradise for climbers.

The Thaurac massif is an isolated triangular plateau nestled between the Cretaceous basins of Ganges to the north and Montoulieu to the south. It rises 200 meters above the vineyards with vertical rock faces interrupted by the gorge through which the Hérault River flows. Its highest point is the "Bosc du Grand Serre" at 487 meters. Despite the deep incision made by the river, it extends southwestward as a distinct unit, with the "Rocher de Sion" as its main landmark. This isolated area is commonly known to speleologists as the Montagne d'Agonès. Tapered in its northeastern section, it is deeply incised with limestone pavements (lapiaz), whose highly developed formations provide access to numerous caves, the most famous of which is the Grotte des Demoiselles (Cave of the Maidens).
