Dargilan Cave

Two sites in one: overlooking the Jonte gorges, the largest cave in the Causses and Cévennes, a classified site***, amazes with its very accentuated natural colours, its great variety of concretions and the scale of its volumes.

Upon arriving at reception, one is immediately struck by the superb panorama that unfolds before them. The panoramic terrace offers one of the most beautiful viewpoints (accessible by car) overlooking the Jonte Gorge. An interpretive panel explains the geology of this major French landmark.
Next comes the tour, where passionate guides will immerse you in this magical world for 1.5 hours. With its well-maintained path of over 1 km, the cave reveals itself chamber by chamber: a vast vault with stalactites, a unique petrified waterfall (2000 m² in a single stretch), crystal-clear lakes, a majestic bell tower... It gives visitors, young and old, the feeling of being explorers, in complete safety. In this calcitic palace, discover how water transforms into stone and stone into sumptuous colors.
Discovered in 1880, explored in 1888 and first inhabited in 1890, it was the first cave to be opened to the public.
Its dynamic, understated LED lighting, respecting the cavity, allows its mystery to be revealed while preserving emotion and naturalness.

Car, motorcycle and coach parking, snack bar, picnic tables, souvenir and mineral shop, picnic area, panoramic path, shaded terrace, interpretation table for the major site, hiking trail, orienteering course.
Services: loan of woolens and baby carriers. Photos allowed.

Cave temperature: 10° / Guided tour: 1 hour 30 minutes. Pets on leashes are welcome.
