The greenways in the Southern Cévennes offer a true paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year. These peaceful and safe routes, developed along former railway lines, allow you to discover the unspoiled beauty of the region.

Between green landscapes, historical heritage and serene atmosphere, the greenways in the South Cévennes promise unforgettable walks in the heart of preserved nature.

The Viaduct Promenade

The route winds for 3,5 km near the villages of Molières-Cavaillac, Bez-et-Esparon, and Arre. It follows the old Tournemire (Aveyron) - Le Vigan (Gard) railway line. As it enters the mountainous terrain of the Cévennes, the walk progresses through particularly lush vegetation. This path runs alongside the large karst plateaus of the Causse de Blandas on the right bank of the Arre valley, which separates them from the granite massif of Linguas and Mont Aigoual.

Worth discovering: the remarkable Lavassac metal bridge of the Eiffel type, with a span of 80 meters and a weight of 418 tons of steel..!

The Ganges-Sumène greenway

Accessible from Sumène or Ganges, the greenway is a 4,5-kilometer route along a former railway line. During your ride, you will cross five viaducts and two tunnels equipped with lighting that protects the bat population. You can also enjoy panoramic views of Ganges, Sumène, and the Rieutord Valley. The greenway allows you to discover the Cévennes village of Sumène and the town center of Ganges with its Friday market and numerous shops.

Worth discovering: The Combe Chaude nature reserve and its small path showcasing the fauna and flora of the Rieutord valley.

The Ganges – Saint Hippolyte du Fort greenway

Along the first foothills of the Cévennes, the greenway from Ganges to Saint Hippolyte du Fort stretches for 12 kilometers. Shaded by oak trees along the route, it is accessible all year round by bike or on foot.

To discover: The Ginestous menhir, the Eglisette de Moulès & Baucels as well as the charming little village of La Cadière and Cambo.

The greenway of the Cévennes foothills

In the Vidourle valley and on the Cévennes foothills, the Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort / Quissac greenway lets you discover the Gard hinterland, the vineyards & the agricultural plains, all in the shade of Aleppo pines and pubescent oaks.

Quissac, Sauve, Conqueyrac, Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort, 4 charming villages with their old bridges, their temples & churches and medieval alleyways to discover along this 19 kilometer route.

Note that the greenway will be linked to the Ganges / Sumène greenway thanks to the opening of the Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort / Ganges greenway which is planned for autumn 2023.
