A long hike, but a beautiful testament to the unique history of the reforestation of the Aigoual massif. Perched at an altitude of 1000m, the Maison des Cévennes was one of ten forest lodges established on the Aigoual massif during the reforestation effort. Because the Cévennes region had long suffered from overgrazing by sheep and logging for industry, the government decided to buy back these large farm estates at the end of the 19th century to use them as centers for the region's revitalization. Today, the Maison des Cévennes in Puéchagut is an inn offering accommodation.
